It seems as though Square merchants over in the U.S. are experiencing some pretty good times – as Square has reported that U.S. merchants actually chalk up sales of up to $100 million – and all of it within a single day, now how about that? In fact, the combination of small businesses that make use of Square’s popular iPhone- and iPad-connected credit card readers manage to sell over $100 million worth of goods as well as services within 24 hours.
Out of the lot, it looks as though food is the most popular item – where payment has been made for close to 1.5 million meals – not to mention 430,215 cups of coffee making their way to tables and takeaway packs after a Square transaction. Apart from that, close to 203,000 people also paid for their haircuts using Square’s payment system, with another 72,000 plus folks taking the Square route to purchase new clothes.
The impressive list of statistics does not stop there, as Square also did mention that 25% of active credit or debit cards in the U.S. has been used with Square this year alone, and if Square merchants were to be lumped under a single category, they would end up as the 13th largest retailer in the U.S. [Press Release]
