There’s no doubt in the fact that music lovers are moving towards streaming services, which is why digital music sales have dipped over the past year. Spotify is one of the most widely used music streaming services and today it released a list of most popular artists and tracks of 2014. The company’s Year In Review shows that its more than 50 million active users streamed over 7 billion hours of music, which is equal to almost 800,000 years of listening.
The album streamed the most around the world was Ed Sheeran’s “x,” which also makes him the most streamed artist around the world. Rap icon Eminem was the most streamed artist in the U.S., with Katy Perry overtaking Rihanna as the most streamed female artist.
Interestingly Taylor Swift was missing from the list. Anyone who has been following music related news over the past couple of weeks would know about the Spotify-Taylor Swift beef which resulted in the latter pulling all of her music from the service. When asked if she was missing from the list because of the debacle, Spotify said that the results haven’t been modified, she simply didn’t make the list.
The most streamed track in the U.S. this year was Fancy by Iggy Azalea, followed by Katy Perry’s Dark Horse and Happy by Pharrell Williams.
