They say that there is no such thing as a free lunch in this world, but what about a free game? Well, it looks like the folks over at Electronic Arts will be giving out Maxis’ classic city building game, known as SimCity 2000, for free. Yes sir, that is correct – there is no need to fork out a single cent for SimCity 2000, since the game is right now part of the publisher’s “On the House” promotion for Origin.
Electronic Arts intends to point out that there is no fine print to go through, and neither do you need to be wary of any kind of catch. Those who are interested will be able to download the Windows PC version of SimCity 2000 Special Edition for free – although you will need to have an Origin account in the first place.
Is this the first time that Electronic Arts has offered a free game? Not actually, as EA has already released free copies of Dragon Age: Origins, Peggle, Wing Commander 3 and other games in the past so that gamers with a tinge of nostalgia will hopefully check out just what other titles that Origin has. Of course, those who would not like to pick up the game for free, can purchase it DRM-free for $2.99.
