While Shazam might have gotten its start at helping users identify songs, the app and company have come a long way since then. Well for those who are looking to get a bit more functionality out of Shazam apart from just the identification of their favorite tunes, you’re in luck as the company has recently announced a major update to its app and website.
Like we said while previous Shazam was known for song identification, the update will turn the app and its services into something more. Shazam can now be used to help with music discovery, such as displaying charts to show off which songs are currently trending within the app, when, and where.
There will also be personalized news based on the music that the app thinks you like, and will also show trending songs from your friends and artists. Shazam has also included playback options for Spotify users. Previously the company had added support for Rdio subscribers, so if you’re a premium Spotify/Rdio subscriber, you can now play music from their playlists within Shazam itself.
It should be noted that this is only for iOS users at the moment with Android support expected to follow in the coming weeks. Shazam has also launched its own Hall of Fame for songs that have been Shazamed at least 5 million times, so if you’re wondering what songs are users trying to figure out the most, this is a good place to look. In the meantime for those who haven’t gotten the app/update yet, you can do so via the iTunes App Store or Google Play.
