The buzz surrounding Samsung’s Tizen smartphone has died down considerably. A Tizen powered smartphone from Samsung has been rumored multiple times over the past few years, and the company has delayed it a couple of times as well. Last we heard that there was a possibility of Samsung Z1 being launched in India but that didn’t happen. Now a report originating from Korea suggests that the Z1 release might take place on January 18th.
The Z1 is a low-end device that is running Samsung’s homegrown operating system. It is believed to have a 4-inch WVGA display, a 1.2GHz dualcore processor, 3.2 megapixel rear camera, 3G and dual-SIM support. The price tag is said to be below $100.
A report from The Korea Economic Daily cites a Samsung official on this, claiming that the company will release Z1 on January 18th, 2015. India is said to be the launch market and this is something that has already been rumored before. It remains to be seen whether this smartphone will be released in other markets as well, particularly in the same region as India.
Samsung is said to have delayed the launch of this smartphone because it wanted to take the time to get more applications ready for the Tizen platform. If the release does indeed happen on January 18th only then we’ll know that the platform now has enough apps, at least enough to make Samsung go ahead with the release.
