Sony just can’t seem to catch a break these days. It was a few years ago that Sony’s PSN got hacked and in the process, a lot of credit card information was stolen and Sony landed themselves into some hot water over it. Recently Sony Pictures has been hacked as well, and the bad news for PSN gamers is that if you weren’t around earlier, it looks like PSN got hacked yet again.
The good news is that services appear to have returned to normal, but for a few hours earlier PSN was unaccessible by gamers. During the downtime Sony acknowledged there were some issues although they did not specifically mention that they were hacked. The group behind the hack was the Lizard Squad who claimed responsibility for the downtime by posting a message on their Twitter account.
For those who are wondering why the name sounds so familiar, it is because that is the same group that claimed responsibility for bringing down Microsoft’s Xbox Live service for the Xbox 360 a few days ago. The group also promised back then that the attack was just a small dose of what was to come over the Christmas season, and given that many people will be off work and school during the holidays, hopefully Microsoft and Sony are taking these threats seriously and are bolstering their defenses.
In the meantime are you able to log into PSN or are you still have trouble connecting to the service?
