During Sharp’s demonstration, it appeared that the company had hopes that the automotive industry would adopt its technology, but thanks to a report from Kyodo (via Design & Trend), it seems that an unlikely candidate could be thinking about using the company’s free form display. The report claims that Nintendo is the company interested in Sharp’s display which they could be thinking about using for a new product.
Apparently Nintendo is looking to create a device with a “donut-hole” in its center. Some have speculated that it could be for the 3DS’ successor which is a little odd given that Nintendo had recently refreshed the 3DS’ hardware. The alternative would be that sleep-tracking device that Nintendo had teased a couple of months ago.
To be fair it’s a bit hard to imagine what kind of product that would require a display with a donut-hole center, so be sure to take it with a grain of salt for now. That being said Nintendo hasn’t exactly been one to follow convention so perhaps it’s not such a stretch, but what do you guys think?
