Even though the two most popular mobile platforms, iOS and Android, provide users with their own mapping services many believe that the Nokia HERE mapping service is actually a pretty good alternative. HERE landed on Android earlier this year first as a Samsung exclusive. We’ve never lost hope for an iOS version and now the company has confirmed that HERE Maps for iOS is going to be released in 2015.
This was confirmed today as HERE Maps finally made its way to the Google Play Store. Its first appearance on Android was limited to Samsung devices only, before an APK was released that could be side-loaded on any Android device. Being available on Google Play Store certainly takes the pain out of installing this app on an Android smartphone.
Nokia wrote in a blog post that a lot of people have expressed interest in an iOS version of Nokia HERE Maps. “We really appreciate this interest and demand,” says Nokia adding that its iOS development team is working hard and that it officially plans to launch HERE for iOS in “early 2015.”
That settles it then. At some point early next year we will all be able to get HERE Maps on iOS. We just have to sit tight until then.
