Hatred Reinstated On Steam Greenlight Thanks To Valve’s Gabe Newell

We’re not sure how many of you guys have seen the trailer for an upcoming game called Hatred. For those who haven’t, well it’s basically an extremely violent game in which it allows gamers to go around on an ultra-violent shooting spree. The game made its way onto Steam’s Greenlight but was later pulled for its content.

However it looks like the game has been reinstated on Steam, thanks to what appears to be the intervention of Valve’s Gabe Newell. In an email Newell reportedly sent to the developers, he wrote, “Yesterday I heard that we were taking Hatred down from Greenlight. Since I wasn’t up to speed, I asked around internally to find out why we had done that. It turns out that it wasn’t a good decision, and we’ll be putting Hatred back up. My apologies to you and your team. Steam is about creating tools for content creators and customers. Good luck with your game.”

There has been some controversy surrounding the game and the decision to pull it from Greenlight. Some are in agreement with Valve’s initial decision as the game did come across as ultra-violent, however its developers pointed out in a statement that games such as Manhunt and Postal are allowed. “Even though games like Manhunt or Postal are still available on Steam we of course fully respect Valve’s decision, as they have the right to do so.”

The issue here appears to be Valve’s attempt at censorship, but what do you guys think? Was Valve right in their initial decision, or was Newell’s response the right one?
