Galaxy S6 Rumored To Have Cat.10 LTE Modem

There have already been quite a few rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S6. Apparently the company is going back to the drawing board for this flagship and is developing it with a completely new vision. Nothing about the specifications has been officially confirmed as yet so we still have to rely upon scuttlebutt, the latest being that Samsung’s upcoming flagship will tout a Cat.10 LTE modem.

This comes from a publication based in South Korea which claims that Samsung is developing a tri-band Cat.10 LTE modem for its Exynos processors. Any device powered by the new Exynos chips would then be able to support theoretical data speeds of up to 450Mbps, a major bump from the theoretically possible 300Mbps allowed by existing Cat.6 LTE modems.

We know that Samsung released multiple variants of its flagship devices. In some markets they are powered by the company’s own Exynos chips whereas in others Samsung uses chips from Qualcomm. The Galaxy S6 is expected to come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chip.

Even if this rumor turns out to be true and a Galaxy S6 variant comes with a Cat.10 LTE modem its not like this feature would be useful for majority of the users. Carriers in the U.S. don’t support speeds of up to 450Mbps, and that’s pretty much the case in major markets around the world.

South Korea’s LG U+ is developing its tri-band LTE network which the Galaxy S6 would be able to take advantage of, so that’s just about how far the real-world support goes for Cat.10 LTE modems at this point in time.
