Foursquare isn’t really the product it used to be when it first came out. A few months back the company made some very significant changes by unbundling the check-in features to an entirely new app, and revamping the original Foursquare app to serve enhanced discovery and exploration features. Having gone through all of those phases the official Foursquare app for iPad has finally been released.
As previously explained, the focus of this application is to enable users to discover locations like restaurants, bars, delis as well as different points of interest around their location. Since the iPad has relatively more screen real-estate, the user interface shows content in a magazine layout with a carousel at the top which puts recommendations for best places nearby front and center.
Scrolling the main feed displays popular places during that week, apart from the best rated restaurants in the area, great locations recommended by experts and tourists.
The social functions that used to be available in the original Foursquare app are no longer here, because they have been spun out to the Swarm app, which doesn’t natively support Apple’s tablet right now.
If you like discovering great places around you on your iPad then Foursquare, which is basically a local search engine now, will greatly help you in your search. The app is available as a free download from the App Store.
