Apple Reportedly Declined To Release ‘The Interview’ On iTunes

“The Interview” is a movie by Sony Pictures Entertainment that has made international headlines. It is the reason why SPE was hit with a devastating cyberattack that resulted in a lot of secret data being leaked online, apart from unreleased movies. Moviegoers were also threatened by hackers with 9/11 style attacks which caused major theater chains to cancel screenings. Sony has been looking at alternatives to get the movie out, a published report suggests that it may even have approached Apple for help, with the White House apparently getting involved as well.

Just yesterday Sony confirmed that some independent theaters will be screening The Interview on Christmas Day, the intended release date, but still no major chain has changed its stance.

According to The New York Times, citing “people briefed on the matter,” Sony reached out to the White House to seek its help in order to line up a technology partner, Apple, “but the tech company was not interested, at least not on a speedy time-table.” A representative for the Cupertino-based company declined to comment on this report.

Getting The Interview on iTunes would have meant that hundreds of millions of people around the world would have been able to watch this controversial movie from the comfort of their iOS devices, Macs and Apple TVs.

The movie just might land on iTunes at some point in time but it certainly won’t be making it in time for Christmas.
