Each year Apple conducts a special retail store event for people who are based in Japan. The event actually stems from the tradition known as Fukubukuro where retailers will fill a bag with mysterious products and sell that bag for a lot less than the original price, customers only get to know what’s inside the bag once they’ve purchased it. Apple follows this tradition and has given away MacBooks and iPads in the past as part of its Lucky Bag event.
Apple confirmed through an update on its Japanese website today that this event is returning on January 2nd, 2015, a full year after the previous Lucky Bag event, which took place on January 2nd, 2014.
Typically the company charges a little over $340 for each Lucky Bag. Each bag contains an assortment of items that include headphones, t-shirts, a Mophie Juice Pack and various other accessories. One of four Apple products are also placed in each bag, these products can vary from iPods to MacBook Airs to the iPad Air.
One can imagine why people in Japan would line-up outside the company’s retail stores just to be able to purchase a Lucky Bag. Being lucky enough to get a MacBook Air having paid only $340 would certainly be a great way to start the new year.
