Chromebooks, the relatively cheap laptops powered by Google’s Chrome OS, have done surprisingly well in the notebook market not only because of their price tags but also because of the convenience offered by a cloud-based operating system. Chomebooks are particularly popular in the education sector with students opting them for reasons mentioned above. Rumor has it that Acer will launch at least two new Chromebooks in the coming year which will be more rugged and tougher to withstand rough usage.
Both models are also said to have larger displays, 15.6-inch and 11.6-inch to be precise. Reinforced displays and rugged hinges will ensure that these Chromebooks are able to withstand tough usage, particularly by students, as these Chromebooks will be primarily geared towards the education sector.
The 11.6-inch Acer C740 Chromebook is rumored to have a brushed iron case with reinforced hinges, a 5th-gen Core Broadwell processor from Intel, 1,366×768 pixel resolution display, up to 32GB of storage, 8.5 hours of battery life, up to 4GB of RAM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 3.0, SD card reader and an HDMI port. Price tag is likely to be around $250.
Acer’s second Chromebook, C910, is rumored to have similar specifications with two major differences, its display will measure 15.6-inch and will be available in 1,366×768 or 1,920×1,080 pixel resolution variants. It may offer Intel Celeron or Core i3 Broadwell processor options from Intel.
The company is likely going to introduce these two new Chromebooks by March 2015, so its said.
