Sony celebrated the PlayStation’s 20th anniversary last week. It has been two decades since the first PlayStation console was released. It’s even believed to be the most commercially successful console ever produced, so the company is certainly proud of the PSOne. To celebrate the occasion Sony launched the limited edition 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4, its the same console, the only thing that’s different is the paint job which is similar to that of the PSOne. Sony will sell more units of this limited edition console online come December 15th.
This was announced by Sony UK head Fergal Gara, who confirmed that more units will be sold online starting December 15th. Sony has already sold some 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4 units for next to nothing at pop-up stores in London as part of a three day celebration.
Only 12,300 units of this limited edition console have been produced so it goes without saying that they’re hard to come by. When sales opened up in the U.S. all units were sold out in a matter of minutes, and now eBay is full of listings were these units are being sold for insane amounts of money.
The units that will be sold online starting December 15th will go for the regular retail price. As you can probably tell by now this is limited to the UK. If you’re bent on getting one you can either tell someone in the UK to get one for you, or you can fly across the pond to place an order yourself, it will certainly be cheaper than paying $20,000 for the console on eBay.
