Of course, it goes without saying that a whole lot can happen between now and then, as three years is a very, very long time when it comes to the advancements made in the world of computing. The upcoming supercomputer will be known as Summit (which would be extremely apt if it lives up to its billing by then), where it is said to deliver up to five times the performance of the existing system, which is called Titan, and Titan itself picked up the gong of being the world’s fastest computer in November two years ago.
If all goes to plan, this means the world’s fastest supercomputer mantle will be returned to the US, and it would be interesting to see what the other rivals would think – and do about the situation.
