Warlords of Draenor is the latest expansion for Blizzard’s World of Warcraft MMORPG. So far despite the server issues that prevented gamers from entering the game or completing quests, reviews of the game have been largely positive. So how well has Warlords of Draenor done for itself?
Well according to a press release released by Blizzard, it seems that Warlords of Draenor has managed to sell 3.3 million copies within the first 24 hours of the game’s availability. Blizzard is also reporting that thanks to the expansion, World of Warcraft’s subscriber base has managed to surpass 10 million gamers across all regions.
This is actually very impressive especially when you consider that prior to the expansion’s release, World of Warcraft’s active subscriber base was sitting around the 7 million mark, so for it to leap to over 10 million is quite a feat for a game that is 10 years old, but whether or not Blizzard will be able to maintain that amount of subscribers remains to be seen.
According to Blizzard’s CEO and co-founder Mike Morhaime, “We’re thrilled that so many players jumped in to play Warlords of Draenor on day one and are having a great time with the new content. We poured a lot of hard work and passion into this expansion, and we appreciate all the kind words from players and the overwhelming support they continue to show for World of Warcraft.”
