As usual, the official who revealed this did so on condition of anonymity, and had the reassuring words that laid claim to how none of the department’s classified systems were compromised along the way. However, it must be taken note that some parts of its unclassified systems were shut down so that overall security could improve, and they ought to be back online in due time.
The senior U.S. official mentioned further, “The department recently detected activity of concern in portions of its unclassified email system. There was no compromise of any of the department’s classified systems. The department is implementing improvements to the security of its main unclassified network during a scheduled outage of some internet linked systems. This has impacted some of our unclassified email traffic and our access to public websites from our main unclassified system. We expect our systems to be up and running soon.”
