The Surface 2 tablet from Microsoft is more than a year old now, and earlier this year, we have even seen Microsoft introduce a $100 price cut to this particular tablet in an effort to perhaps clear out its inventory. All in all, the Microsoft Surface 2 has not really managed to meet the kind of sales figures that the iPad from Apple did (in all of its different variations), and neither was it able to compete with the likes of Samsung on a similar scale. Well, if there is one positive that you will be able to draw from the Surface 2’s existence, it would be this – it managed to contribute to a 60% increase in the tablet market share for Microsoft.
Just where did this bit of information come from? Chitika Insights were the ones behind it, after analyzing the latest fourth quarter 2014 tablet market share data. Microsoft did carry a 1% market share in the previous year, and this year, it has managed to gain a slight advantage, hitting the 1.6% mark. Slowly but surely, it is inching out, but taking into consideration how Apple remains comfortably at the top with 79.9%, it will be quite some time, if ever, that Microsoft closes the gap to a worrying level.
