Blizzard’s Heart of the Swarm StarCraft 2 expansion was released early last year, which means that it’s about time gamers could look forward to the next StarCraft 2 expansion – Legacy of the Void. Well for those who are fans of Blizzard’s RTS franchise, you will be pleased to learn that the developers have recently made it official.
Blizzard’s StarCraft 2 has been split into three expansions – Wings of Liberty, Heart of the Swarm, and Legacy of the Void. The first expansion focused on the Terran race, the second on the Zerg, and the last will be focused on the Protoss, all the while having an overarching story to tie things together. Except that Legacy of the Void will not be an expansion per se, but rather a standalone game that will not require the previous two StarCraft 2 games to play.
Legacy of the Void will not only conclude the story, it will add new missions, new characters to the game, as well as new modes. There will be Automated Tournaments that allows for daily competition, Archon Mode which basically allows two players to control one base against two enemies, and an Allied Commanders mode which lets players play with friends in a variety of different scenarios.
Unfortunately Blizzard did not mention when players could look forward to StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void being released, but they did mention that pricing and availability will be announced later. In the meantime gamers can check out the trailer above or head on over to Blizzard’s website to sign up for the game’s beta.
