Sony Xperia L Gets Unofficial Android 5.0 Lollipop Port

Back in 2013, Sony announced the Sony Xperia L. The handset might not necessarily be one that is familiar to some of you guys as its hardware was mid-range at best. However the good news is that if you’re the proud owner of the Xperia L, you might be interested to learn that the handset will be getting Android 5.0 Lollipop.

However we should point out that the upgrade to Android 5.0 is not courtesy of Sony, but rather the folks at the XDA forums. Given that Sony has not upgraded the handset beyond Jelly Bean, safe to say that an official Android 5.0 update seems highly unlikely. That being said, developers at the XDA forums have managed to port the AOSP version of Android 5.0 over onto the handset.

It will not be a purely stock version of Android 5.0 as it will be a little forked, but it should be enough for those who want to squeeze out some extra features and functionality in their devices. Of course the build is still a bit early at this point in time and there are many features that aren’t working yet, so it is not recommended that you use it as your daily driver.

We expect that over time bugs will be squashed as the ROM gets a bit more usable, so if you’d like to follow the progress of the developers or maybe take it for a spin and test for yourself, just hop on over to the XDA Developer forums for the details!
