The company has recently taken the wraps off a 4.1-inch display using IGZO technology that will sport a pixel density of 736ppi! The resolution on the display is of the QHD variety, but the fact that it uses IGZO technology and is squeezed into a 4.1-inch display is mighty impressive. Given that smartphones these days tend to feature larger displays, we’re not sure who might need a 4.1-inch display anymore.
Presumably it will be too expensive to be used even in low-end handsets, but according to Sharp, they expect that they will begin the manufacturing process of these displays in 2016. They are also going to be distributing design samples to manufacturers in 2015, but as to what exactly will come of their efforts remains to be seen, but what do you guys think? What devices do you think Sharp’s display could be used for? Or do you think it’s more about showing off their technological prowess?
