A few months ago, NVIDIA sued Samsung over alleged patent infringement. Well now it looks like Samsung is suing NVIDIA back, except that it is about faking benchmark results in the comparison of the NVIDIA Tegra K1 chipset and the Samsung Exynos 5433, or at least that’s what Samsung claims.
Now the Samsung Exynos 5433 is a powerful chipset, at least that’s what the benchmarks are claiming. However if there was one benchmark that beat the Exynos 5433, it was the Tegra K1 which NVIDIA is boasting as a “desktop-class” SoC. However Samsung is alleging that NVIDIA faked the benchmarks and that it is not as powerful as what NVIDIA is claiming it to be.
Samsung is also alleging that NVIDIA had used at least six Samsung patents without the proper licensing. This has resulted in Samsung going after Velocity Micro, a company that uses NVIDIA’s GPUs with Samsung claiming that the company had also infringed upon at least two of their patents.
Naturally NVIDIA is denying that they have falsified the benchmarks, claiming that the benchmarks were conducted on devices right out of the box. In any case if Samsung’s past history of lawsuits is anything to go by, we could be in for a long battle.
