About a week ago, we reported that the new Retina iMac from Apple was listed on the company’s website where its estimated shipping was set at 2-3 weeks. Now while third-party retailers and the physical Apple store had units in stock, it certainly does sound like Apple could be facing some issues with the supply of the new computers.
According to reports, customers who have ordered the Retina iMac in the past few weeks have received emails from Apple who are claiming that there is an “unexpected delay” in the shipping of their order. One customer whose order was placed on the 31st of October and was quoted as November 14-19th delivery has had their delivery pushed to the 28th of November to the 2nd of December.
Unfortunately Apple has yet to comment on the reason as to why they are having trouble meeting their estimated shipping times. Could it be that Apple simply did not create enough units and failed to anticipate the demand? Considering that Apple has been known to have good supply chain management, that does seem unlikely.
Some are speculating that the 5K displays could have led to possible manufacturing issues as Retina displays have been known to be difficult to manufacture. In any case if you had your eye on the new 5K iMacs from Apple, we suggest that you try your luck at another retailer or be prepared to wait. In the meantime any of our readers receive this “unexpected delay” email from Apple as well?
