Sony has seen unprecedented success with its next-gen gaming console, the PlayStation 4. It has nearly been a year since the console was released around the world and within a few months it left the Xbox One far behind on sheer sales alone. New data reveals that this trend continued down under in Australia. The PlayStation 4 has actually become the fastest selling console ever in Australia.
The data comes from NPD Group Australia. It looks at sales data up until October 26th, 2014 and declares that the Sony PlayStation 4 is now the fast selling console in Australia’s history. The figures don’t show exactly how many units Sony has moved down under but its safe to say that it sold quite a lot.
This comes after great performance by the console in major markets like the U.S. and UK, as well as other parts of the world. Sony was also the first to cross 10 million sales milestone for the PlayStation 4 whereas its rival, the Xbox One, got there as well but took more time.
NPD Group Australia says that the console hardware category in Australia has more than doubled since the debut last year with the PlayStation 4 accounting for a staggering 44 percent of the total category value since launch.
To cope with PS4’s stellar performance Microsoft unbundled the Kinect from Xbox One to meet its rival’s price. Furthermore, latest reports suggest new chips for the Xbox One could bring further decrease in the price.
