NVIDIA became probably the first Android tablet manufacturer to roll out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update as quickly as it did. The roll out of this update was announced on November 13th. By November 18th Lollipop had landed on the Shield tablet. However this was limited to the Wi-Fi variant. Those who had the LTE variant had to wait, until today.

Starting today the Android 5.0 Lollipop update is rolling out for the NVIDIA Shield LTE. It didn’t come at the same time as the Wi-Fi only variant because NVIDIA was waiting for carrier approval at that time.

That’s a drawback when it comes to software update on LTE tablets, carriers have to approve the update before it can be rolled out to the devices. This is why Shield LTE owners have had to wait for an extra week just to get Lollipop on their tablets.

The 8-inch NVIDIA Shield tablet has the company’s own Tegra K1 processor, a full HD display and stereo speakers. Its meant to be more of a gaming tablet really as it has been developed with that purpose in mind.

Those who have a Shield LTE tablet can now check their devices to see if the update has landed, NVIDIA is pushing it out over-the-air.
