Fils-Aime shared that there is “a core difference in how we approach game development versus what tends to happen in the industry.” This is in contrast to how there seems to be a yearly copy of Madden, FIFA or Call of Duty, but when it comes to Mario Kart, it will be just one title per platform. The challenge in this particular model would be, to come up with a game that is so compelling, it continues to get played throughout the lifetime of the console itself, shifting many million copies in the process.
I suppose that there are pros and cons to every situation, and it is nice to see quality maintained where Nintendo’s first party titles are concerned. How about you? Would you like to see a new version of Mario Kart each year on the same platform? Good thing there are DLCs to fall back on these days, right?
