Microsoft’s recent event in Germany saw the announcement from the software behemoth that a whopping 50 million Lumia handsets have been activated to date. This is certainly an interesting figure, and I am quite sure that this includes all the other Lumia devices of yore that carried the Nokia branding, since, Microsoft’s first foray into the Lumia world kicked off with the Microsoft Lumia 535 slightly more than a week ago. What are some of the other juicy details that were revealed by Microsoft?
Apparently, there are currently 560,000 developers for the platform, and Microsoft claims that there are 320,000 apps available in the Windows Phone Store at the moment. In December last year, that figure stood at 200,000, ballooning to 250,000 by the time April 2014 arrived.
It remains to be seen whether Windows Store will be able to play catch up with the likes of the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store, but hope springs eternal. Before the Windows Store can grow further, it will need a whole lot more users on the platform, and that is the tricky part when you take into consideration just how strong that both Apple and Google have consolidated their respective positions in the market, and do not look like they are willing to concede any ground to a different party.
