Avengers: Age of Ultron’s trailer has been released for a while now, but in case you didn’t know, the release of the official trailer was prompted when a leaked (and not so good) copy of the trailer made its way online. Naturally this did not sit well although on the social media front, Marvel seemed to make light of the situation.
However it seems that in the legal department, they weren’t particularly happy about it, nor did they find it funny. In fact it seems that Marvel has recently requested for a subpoena against Google so that they will be able to determine the identity of the person who leaked the trailer. The person in question used the pseudonym “John Gazelle” and had uploaded a copy of the trailer onto Google Drive.
This is why Marvel had decided to seek Google’s help in identifying the culprit. That being said, the judge has since agreed to to grant Marvel the subpoena and will be telling Google to hand over the IP address of the person who had uploaded the file onto Google Drive, along with the IP addresses associated with that person’s YouTube and Google+ accounts.
Google will have until the 18th of November to comply with the court’s request. While leaks do happen from time to time, considering that the next Avengers is going to be a huge movie and a highly-anticipated one, safe to say that Marvel is hoping to send a strong message in the event that the actual movie is leaked, like what happened with The Expendables 3.
