A report published today suggests that Microsoft might soon start rolling out the Lumia Denim update for some devices. The first devices expected to receive Lumia Denim update are believed to be the Lumia 830 and the Lumia 930, followed by the Lumia 1520 a while later. This update was formally announced back in September and Microsoft said at that time that it will be released in the fourth quarter of 2014.
As for what Lumia Denim update brings to the table, there are improvements to Cortana and the native camera software. Users will be able to launch the virtual assistant by saying the “Hey, Cortana” hotword.
Improvements to the native camera software will be part and parcel of Lumia Camera 5. Version 5.0 of this native software will not only ensure that the camera starts up faster but will also improve the speed at which individual photos are captured. Users will also get the ability to record 4K video on Lumia models capable of doing so and snap still images at the same time. The ability to extract photos from recorded 4K video will also be given to users by this update.
As per the sources mentioned in NPU’s report today the first devices to receive the update might be Lumia 830 and the Lumia 930. It is expected that the roll out will begin in the second half of November. It may take up to two months for Lumia Denim to be released to all supported Lumia handsets.
