What happens when a professor has too much time on his hands? Why, he thinks up of different ways to make the world better with his thoughts and creations, and Pramod Abidchandani alongside a trio of Drexel undergraduates have worked together to come up with a robot that is so easy to program, even a first-grader is able to do it without throwing a tantrum. Oh yeah, they are also easy on the bank account, too. Known as the LocoRobo, it was built out of his own frustration with robots.
After all, robots were the bane of Pramod Abichandani as he worked on his doctoral thesis. Abichandani shared, “There were so many bottlenecks in my thesis because of those damn robots.” Hence, the Drexel professor spent a large amount of his time to program robots to use in his research instead of focusing on his goal first, which is to develop algorithms for how driverless vehicles could operate without ending up colliding with one another.
The $250 LocoRobo can be programmed wirelessly, and it is done via a mobile app for beginners, or ever through different programming languages for developers. Right now, LocoRobo intends to raise $113,000 on Indiegogo so that it can be realized, where a pre-order would cost $199 a pop.
