Many had expected that Apple would unveil an “iPad Pro” at its tablet event last month but that didn’t happen. A few days before the event a report surfaced claiming that the so called iPad Pro had been pushed into 2015. iPad Pro is the commonly used moniker for a rumored iPad with a significantly larger display, believed to be 12.9-inches. However a new report suggests that Apple may go with a 12.2-inch display instead for this particular tablet.
The tablets unveiled at last month’s event were the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3. Both retained their respective screen sizes and majority of the changes were made under the hood. Apple didn’t even talk about an iPad with a larger display during the event.
Nevertheless that doesn’t mean the rumors and reports are going to stop. According to Japanese publication Macotakara, the 12.2-inch display size has been locked in for the iPad Pro. This publication has been right on multiple occasions in the past so there just might be some truth to this.
The report further claims that iPad Pro’s thickness will be between 6.9mm and 7.1mm which would make it slightly thicker than the 6.1mm frame of iPad Air 2. Apparently design language will be the same between this tablet and the iPad Air 2, while the former may even have one pair of speakers and microphones both at the top and the bottom.
With an iPad that has a larger display Apple will be able to target markets that otherwise have little or no space for a tablet with a 9.7-inch display. A possible announcement for iPad Pro is expected in the first half of 2015.
