How does this “transparent” car work? Well, it will make good use of a combination of projectors, cameras, and special mirrors in order to reflect what is right outside the car – and show them onto surfaces inside. Sort of like a reverse invisibility cloak, so to speak. In this case, you more or less eliminate blind spots, but surely the idea of driving in such an environment would be unnerving, and will definitely require a fair amount of getting used to in the first place.
This project is the brainchild of Susumu Tachi and Masahiko Inami of the Graduate School of Media Design at Keio University, and it might be some time before other automakers and automotive electronics companies would be in favor of commercializing such technology.
