HP Unveils The Omen Gaming Laptop

HP has long had a presence in the gaming desktop and laptop market, particularly after it acquired Voodoo back in 2006, but recently it hasn’t devoted much time and resources to these machines. That changes today. HP has announced a new gaming laptop called Omen. The release has been perfectly timed with the approaching holiday season as it goes head to head against similar laptops from the likes of Asus, Razer, Origin PC and Lenovo.

HP Omen has a 15.6-inch 1,920×1,080 pixel resolution touchscreen display with an Intel Core i7 processor underneath, aided by the NVIDIA GeForce 860M graphics card. Other specifications include 8GB of RAM and a 128GB solid state drive. If the specifications sound a bit similar, that’s because they are more or less what you would find on a Lenovo Y50 Touch.

The laptop is milled from a single piece of aluminum and has tapered edges with speaker grilles on either side. All ports can be found at the back, courtesy the aforementioned tapered edges. The keyboard has a red backlight with six programmable function keys located along the left edge.

HP Omen is available for order in the U.S. starting today in its base configuration. It can be picked up from the Microsoft Store, Best Buy as well as many other online retailers. Shipping is expected to begin within a few weeks. Omen starts at $1,499 and customers can add a $100 more for 256GB SSD. For $1,699 the Omen can be purchased with 4GB GeForce 960M and the 256GB SSD.
