Google Drive In Chrome Can Now Launch Desktop Apps

drive-chrome-launchWhen it comes to Google, this particular company has done a pretty good job at rolling out various apps that help make our lives easier. Who can forget about the way their Calendar app has been updated in order to deliver a seamless way of having your digital calendar filled via information gleaned from emails? Well, their Chrome browser is also another highlight, being one of the now mandatory “installs” whenever you first boot up a brand new computer or notebook. Google takes things another step further in the right direction by allowing you to open files straight from Google Drive (thanks to a new extension) into a compatible application that has already been installed on your computer.

Needless to say, this would require you to have said compatible applications already up and running beforehand, so make sure that you have made all of the necessary preparations prior. As to the kind of applications that will work in this manner, it will include the likes of advanced image and video editing software, accounting and tax programs, or even 3D animation and design tools. Hence, it now does not matter too much on what kind of files you have uploaded to Drive – as long as there is a decent Internet connection in the vicinity, you will be able to access and manage those files, literally bringing down the walls of a regular office.

Just make sure that you have the latest version of Drive beforehand, too. [Press Release]
