General Motors Could Be Developing Android Car Infotainment System

Traveling on the road, especially for long hours at a stretch, can be an extremely tiring experience. Getting enough sleep is of course, one of the major factors to be taken into consideration, and at times, one would also need the power of music in order to remain awake – or simply to spur one on for the last 50 miles or so. General Motors has been rumored to be working alongside Harman International on a project that will see an Android-powered car infotainment system roll out in production cars some time in late 2016.

This might not sound like much, but a major advantage of the rumored system is said to be its ability to function without having to pair it up with a smartphone, now how about that for impressive? Of course, there will still be an option to do so with an Android-powered smartphone, so one will be able to make a decision based on the best of both worlds.

All information that will be fed to the driver remains native to the car, and it will not rely on an app to process it beforehand. Apart from that, the same rumors also point to the upcoming GM system to enable drivers to gain control of their smartphone using dashboard buttons, touchscreens, and voice controls, as it boots up at the same time the car is started.
