Ford-Telogis Alliance To Improve On Police Officer Safety
Being a police officer is no walk in the park, especially when you lay your life on the line at times in the call of duty. However, being public employees in positions of authority, there are also potential pitfalls in the system due to the nature of the human heart that can get so easily corrupted when all the right elements are there in place. Ford intends to help out the police by working alongside Telogis, rolling out a new system that will be known as Ford Telematics for Law Enforcement. This new system will eventually be installed in its range of Police Interceptor patrol vehicles, helping keep our police safer while offering those in charge of a city to have a better idea on what its officers are up to.
Live data concerning the cruisers will be streamed to the home base, allowing the police chief or shift supervisor to keep tabs on their personnel. Information delivered include speed of the car at the moment, one’s location and even cornering acceleration. Of course, who are we to say that in due time, there will be other variables such as whether the emergency lights are turned on, or if an officer is wearing a seatbelt, will be sent to the home base.
Ford spokesperson Chris Terry shared that Ford Telematics for Law Enforcement “ought to protect officers as much as it protects the public” through the monitoring of patrol cars. What do you think of such a system? [Press Release]
