The winner of a Far Cry 4 contest, Will Cruz, would be proud and happy to know that he is now part of the Guinness Book of World Records folklore, especially when he is the holder of a Guinness World Record for “Highest Altitude Video Game Console Session”. Earlier this year in July, Ubisoft, the publisher behind Far Cry 4, held a competition that would allow one lucky winner to pick up a free trip to Nepal. The reason behind this prize? To make sure that one would be able to get some mountain climbing in, and to have a go at Far Cry 4 earlier than the rest of the masses.
Cruz was the lucky winner in this particular contest, and once he touched down in Nepal, he proceeded to climb to the peak of Kala Patthar. It is definitely not as famous as Mount Everest itself, but happens to be a nearby peak that is accessible from the same base camp.
This happened close to a month back, where on October 11th, he mustered up 79 minutes of playing time on this PS4 shooter at 18,569 feet above sea level. When one whips out the calculator and starts to realize that it is the rough equivalent of it being three miles up, then it makes for an extremely impressive world record. In fact, throughout his gaming session, the mercury dropped to as low as 17℉ (-8.3℃) and wind speeds hit 25mph (40 kmph).55
