Burg claims to have launched the first smartwatch which is also a phone over at Walmart, although we have seen our fair share of smartwatches that feature phone functionality built into them as well, such as the .klatz device earlier this month. Burg has a history when it comes to such a convergence device, with their Burg 5 as well as Burg 6 which were revealed some years back. This time around, their $199 effort would make you think of the comic character Dick Tracy, where the Burg 12 smartwatch functions as a standalone phone – as it pairs up to other iPhones and Android-powered smartphones.
The Burg 12 smartwatch is the brainchild of Hermen van den Burg, w world renowned lifestyle designer to Ikea as well as Target, and this particular piece of wearable tech will feature interchangeable bezels and straps for the fashion conscious out there, cutting edge design coupled with functionality that ought to satisfy the road warrior. It will even come with a free SIM card that offers up to $25 worth of free calls, where you can choose from black and purple colors to begin with.
Features include touchscreen menus, two-way Bluetooth-based communication, SMS and MMS capabilities, an integrated camera, a built-in FM radio, media playback support, a 3-day standby battery life, and a 1.5” TFT touchscreen display with 240 x 240 resolution.
