While Android One devices which currently run on stock Android are said to obtain quick updates to the most recent version of Android, ala Android 5.0 Lollipop, it would look as though the Nexus range does seem to be deemed as “royalty” by Google. As the different kinds of Nexus devices have begun to receive the new software over-the-air, not much is heard about updates for Android One devices. Spice Mobility’s CEO, Prashant Bindal, did mention that their Android One-powered Dream Uno smartphone will be on the receiving end of the Android 5.0 Lollipop update in January next year. Apart from that, it seems that this particular update is already consumer-ready, and user devices could begin to receive it even by the middle of December onward.
In other words, taking into consideration all Android One devices happen to run on identical hardware that have been signed off by Google, it is also widely tipped that when this update is available, the rest of the Android One-based devices will also be on the receiving end without giving too much care about the brand which it comes under.
At this point in time, Android One partners will include the likes of Spice, Micromax, Karbonn, Lava, Intex, and Xolo.
