Windows Phone users who fly American Airlines were probably pretty chuffed when earlier this year, the airline company released a Windows Phone app. It looked like things were going well for Windows Phone users as the company released an update in September, so as far as things are concerned, everything looked normal.
At least until now. It seems that American Airlines has decided to remove its app from the Windows Phone Store and they have since stated that they will no longer be supporting the Windows Phone platform. This is pretty odd given that it was only a couple of months ago since they released an update for their app.
It is unclear as to why American Airlines has decided to stop supporting the platform as they did not provide a reason why. One could argue that maybe Windows Phone does not have as many users than iOS and Android, but that would mean the company wouldn’t have bothered to release an app in the first place, let alone take it down after a few months of it being live.
The app in question does what you might expect from an airline company app, which is it allows users to book a flight, perform mobile check-ins, find out which gate numbers they are at, pick their seats, check flight status, and more. As it stands it looks like the iOS and Android apps remain unaffected.
