Now the question is when will said service launch? Well speaking at the code/mobile event, YouTube’s CEO Susan Wojcicki was quoted as saying that YouTube’s music service is a “near term goal”. Apparently YouTube is currently trying to figure out a pricing scheme for their service.
According to Wojcicki, “Consumers generally will either choose ads, or pay a fee, which is an interesting model. … We’re thinking about how to give users options.” In fact a few months ago, there was talk about YouTube Music Key which was supposed to be YouTube’s music service. The report suggested that we could be looking at a monthly subscription of $9.99.
There have also been rumors that the service has been delayed due to contractual disputes with the indie labels, but either way if Wojcicki’s statements are accurate, we guess we won’t have to wait too long to learn more about it.
