Earlier this year we have heard that World of Warcraft’s active subscribers had dropped to 6.8 million. Given that this is a game that is almost a decade old, 6.8 million gamers is still a pretty impressive feat. However according to newly released figures which you can see in the graph above, it looks like there is a small spike in gamers.
The latest figures now show that there are around 7.4 million active subscribers in the game at the moment. Now before you think that maybe World of Warcraft could be seeing a new lease on life, chances are the spike in subscribers is probably due to the upcoming expansion, Warlords of Draenor, which is due for a release on the 13th of November.
This is usually the case with new expansions, as we can see in the graph above. Towards the end of the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, we see a slight spike as gamers returned for Cataclysm. Cataclysm experienced a similar dip towards the end and saw a spike when the Mists of Pandaria expansion was released.
We can only assume this is the case here with Warlords of Draenor. We’re not sure how much of a spike we are looking at, but right now it is around the 600,000 mark. In the meantime Patch 6.0.2 has been released which includes the UI and game changes, as well as the introduction of updated character models.
