I myself am rather skeptical about smartphones and tablets getting thinner and thinner – after all, with the Bendgate fiasco which concerns Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus, not to mention the extremely slim iPad Air 2 which bends and then some, things might not turn out too well for Oppo with whispers of a new and upcoming smartphone that is said to be as thin as just 4mm at its thinnest point. That’s crazy thin, just in case you were wondering.
Of course, nothing else about this upcoming device has been confirmed officially just yet, so you can file this bit of news under the wild rumors radar. Needless to say, if Oppo is well up to the task, it would not be too far off the mark to figure out that Chinese manufacturer Vivo themselves could be working on a new smartphone that would beat the 4mm mark comfortably – by being 3.8mm thin itself!
This does seem as though the race to be the thinnest device in its class is getting out of hand, and it certainly makes the iPhone 5s with its 7.6mm of thickness look absolutely obese. Just how far do you think smartphone manufacturers will be able to go in trimming the “fat”, so to speak, before such efforts hit a brick wall?
