Well our earlier post detailed some of the security features of Apple Pay, but if you’re looking for extra reassurance, Visa has recently revealed the technology behind Apple Pay that they believe will help assuage your fears. According to Visa, they states that your credit card details will remain safe, thanks to the implementation of the new Token Service that they launched last month.
What this means is that when you use your Visa credit card at a store, your credit/debit card number will not be revealed. Instead a digital account number associated with your credit/debit card will be generated, and will pass through the merchant and sent on to Visa who will then charge your card.
This means that even if a hacker were to intercept the data, they would only have the digital account number to work with as opposed to your actual credit card number. In the event your phone is lost, all Apple has to do is wipe the token, so you don’t have to worry about replacing your card. Visa also points out other security features like Touch ID and Apple ID as being extra layers of security, but what say you? Are you convinced yet?
