Remember earlier this year we saw a video of an alleged hoverboard in action? We were a bit skeptical of its legitimacy at first and our doubts were proven true when it turned out to be a hoax. That being said, another hoverboard called the Hendo by Greg and Jill Henderson, has appeared and is being crowdfunded on Kickstarter, but this time it looks like it is the real deal.
Now before you get too excited at the idea of zipping down the streets on it like Marty McFly of Back to the Future fame, there are some caveats regarding the device. This is based on the accounts from, publications such as the New York Times and The Verge who actually managed to ride the device.
For starters the Hendo hoverboard will not allow users to zip down the streets like in the movies, unless of course our sidewalks and roads are made of a special surface which is used to help the Hendo hover. According to the New York Times, “It’s not exactly Marty McFly’s hoverboard. Now it only works on special surfaces, and the battery life is only a few minutes long. And it’s tough to ride.”
Now you might think that this is something that could be worked on for the future, right? Unfortunately that might not be the case. It seems that the development of the hoverboard is more of a publicity stunt and the company’s long-term goal is to help build building foundations to prevent earthquake damage.
That being said it still looks incredibly fun and hopefully with enough interest and demand for it, the Hendersons and their company Arx Pax will consider developing it further and ultimately giving us the hoverboard of our dreams.
