The Hemingwrite Could Be The Typewriter For The Next Generation

The typewriter is not used a lot these days, although admittedly there are still some uses left for the device, and we suppose there are some writers out there who prefer writing on a typewriter versus a computer, simply because it affords them no distractions since there aren’t any apps, games, music, videos, or the internet.

Well if you’re after something similar but don’t want to get a typewriter, you might be interested in a device called the Hemingwrite. As you can see in the image above, the Hemingwrite looks like a typewriter, sort of, except that it is a more digital version of it. It will feature a keyboard made from mechanical keys so you still get the “clack” when you type, and the e-ink display will show you what you’re typing along with the time and date.

It will also be able to connect to the cloud and sync with applications such as Google Docs and Evernote, so you could take the Hemingwrite with you on the go and sync your documents to the cloud wherever you travel. Its creators are also boasting a potential 6-week plus battery life and will also be able to store over a million pages, so you don’t have to worry about running out of space or wasting paper.

Now unfortunately as it stands, the Hemingwrite is still in the prototype phase. The device has actually made it as a semi-finalist for Engadget’s Insert Coin inventor’s competition and will be debuting the device at the Engadget Expand NY conference come 7-8th November. We’re not sure when the Hemingwrite will actually be made a reality, but we’ll have to admit that we are intrigued.
