That being said, it seems that apart from revising their sales estimates, Sony is also said to be reducing the number of flagship smartphones they release a year. As it stands, Sony releases two. Last year we were treated to the Sony Xperia Z followed by the Xperia Z1. This year we were treated to the Xperia Z2 and the Xperia Z3, but come 2015, we might only see one Sony flagship smartphone.
DigiTimes claims that Sony will be following in the footsteps of Apple who has typically released one flagship model a year (we suppose apart from screen size, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are near-identical in hardware). It seems that most Android OEMs tend to release two flagship phones a year to avoid losing market share.
Will this work out for Sony? We guess we’ll just have to wait and see, but we suppose if it is true, it could explain why the rumored specs of the Sony Xperia Z4 are so high, since Sony only plans on releasing one flagship phone a year, but what do you guys think? Do you like the idea of two flagship phones a year?
