The Android Wear-powered SmartWatch 3 is a new wearable device from Sony. Folks anxious to pick one up have been waiting for the device to go on sale and now it finally has. Just earlier this week the Sony SmartWatch 3 made its first appearance on the Google Play Store. Today though it is available for purchase through Verizon.
Verizon is now accepting orders for the Sony SmartWatch 3. It costs $249 plus any and all costs related to shipping and taxes. The carrier says it will start shipping units out to customers by October 30th.
The SmartWatch 3 is the first Android Wear device from Sony. Verizon will sell it with the latest Android Wear update from Google pre-installed, which brings the ability to play music stored locally through Bluetooth headphones and enables GPS functionality. Sony’s new smartwatch does have a built-in GPS which can take advantage of this feature.
If you don’t want to purchase it from Verizon and would rather wait till it becomes available on Google Play, then you may not have to wait for too long. Google has confirmed today that the Sony SmartWatch 3 will indeed be sold through its online store but it is currently listed as “coming soon,” with no word as yet on an exact date.
