Back in September, Sony officially took the wraps of the QX1 and QX30 lens style camera device. What made them unique from its predecessors was the QX30 offered a long zoom, while the QX1 was more of a mount in which users would be able to mount their existing Sony lenses on the device, thus giving them more options than before.
While the original QX10 and QX100 weren’t exactly bestsellers, it turns out that the QX1 and QX30 are an entirely different story. According to Sony Japan (via Sony Alpha Rumors), they have recently issued a statement in which they are warning customers that they could see potential delay in the shipments of their orders.
This is apparently due to both the QX1 and QX30 seeing much higher than expected demand. In some ways this isn’t that surprising given that the QX1 was previously listed on Amazon’s bestseller’s list, although it is refreshing to see that the demand for the device is greater than expected.
Perhaps the notion of a zoom accessory and an accessory that will support a variety of Sony-made lenses is more appealing compared to the QX10 and QX100 which while unique in their own way, did not really offer up anything that compelling. Does this mean we can expect Sony to continue churning out more QX-style accessories? We can only hope so.
